State of McKinleyville

Join us for our first forum of 2018!

On Wednesday, January 17, we will be holding our State of McKinleyville forum.

Confirmed panelists include Fifth District Supervisor Ryan Sundberg, Humboldt County Sheriff Lieutenant Kevin Miller, Arcata Fire Chief Justin McDonald, MCSD General Manager Greg Orsini, Humboldt County Planning & Building Director John Ford and McKinleyville Neighborhood & Business Watch coordinator Christine Willfong.

The panel will focus on issues that impact our local businesses and our community. Suggested topics that we hope to touch on:
  • How Measure Z funds are being put to use in McKinleyville
  • Recent and planned improvements to McKinleyville
  • Clarification on the cannabis industry and zoning regulations for McKinleyville
  • Steps that have been taken to help curb the homeless/drug issues in McKinleyville
  • How theft is affecting local businesses and possible solutions
McKinleyville has become one of the fastest growing communities in Humboldt County. It is important that we do our best to protect our businesses and community members. One way to do that would be to join the McKinleyville Business Watch program. Christine will have informational handouts on the benefits and how to join.

The State of McKinleyville will be held at Holiday Inn Express and begin at 8:30 a.m. Click here to register to attend this information packed forum. Coffee and morning pastries will be served.

Note: If any of these issues prove to need more time than is available at this forum, the chamber will be organizing additional forums to focus on those issues.

TREE LIGHTING, SANTA, CARRIAGE RIDES & MORE

Many members of the community were at the McKinleyville Shopping Center on December 7th to welcome Santa while he lit the tree. A special thank you to Anne Pierson for purchasing more durable lights to ensure that this annual tradition continues for many years to come. What a great turnout for the festivities after the tree lighting. Those in attendance enjoyed photos with Santa, balloon twisted creations, carriage rides and craft activities while hot cider and cookies were served. Thank you to Anne Pierson and Taffy Stockton for continuing this annual tradition.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH

My name is Steve Christian and I am a real estate agent with Ming Tree Realty.  As a lifelong resident, I am a proud member of the McKinleyville community.  As a realtor I will not only help find the property you are looking for, but I will be there to guide you through the transaction.  If you are looking to sell, I would be happy to complete a market analysis of your property.  For first time home buyers, I would gladly explain the buying process.  Once you find the right home and get preapproved by a lender, you then make a written offer, which I would help you write.  Once the offer is accepted, the escrow period begins.  During this time there will be an abundance of information/disclosures provided to you regarding the property.  Also, this will be the time period when you hire professionals to inspect the property to make sure you are satisfied with the condition of the home.  The lender will send an appraiser to the property to determine its fair market value, and report back to your lender.  You will be signing loan documents for the lender.  After all that is completed and the funds are deposited the property will be yours and I will be handing you the keys.  If you are planning to purchase or sell property anywhere in Humboldt County, I hope you consider me and Ming Tree Realty of McKinleyville to represent you.

Many thanks to The Parlour for hosting and Rachel Damme for the tasty array of food. The McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce greatly appreciates the support of the members who donate items for the raffle held at the monthly mixers. We are here to support the businesses and community, but it would not be possible without the support of the community minded businesses.
