Saturday, September 20th.  That's the date to reserve on your calendar for the Chamber's Annual Golf Tournament.  This year the chamber is partnering with McKinleyville Youth Football and Cheer to raise money to fund both non-profits.  The tournament offers excellent opportunities for local businesses to advertise, be seen and have a great time.  There will be great prizes and lots of fun.  Print out the application today.  Sponsor the clubhouse, at team, hole or a green.  Get your friends together to form a 4 person team for this scramble.

Tim and Becky Hooven Awarded Azalea Award

This year’s Azalea Award Honorees Tim and Becky Hooven have called Humboldt County home all their lives. Tim graduated Mckinleyville High in 1989. Becky graduated Eureka High 1995. Tim took off for the Army in 1989 and served as a Radar Operator for the 8th Infantry Division in Baumholder, Germany;  and the 1st Cavalry Division, in Fort Hood, Texas until 1992. Once he returned home, he went to work in the family business and enrolled in College of the Redwoods,  graduating in 1995 with an A.S. degree in Small Business.

In the meantime Becky graduated from Eureka High School in 1995 and also attended CR.  She received an Associate’s degree in Technical Preparation in 1998 and received her California Certified Shorthand Reporter License in 2001 and did courtroom and deposition work as a court reporter.  In addition to court reporting, Becky has managed several medical offices in Eureka and Arcata, worked at Mad River Community Hospital, and currently works at St. Joseph Hospital.

Their paths had crossed along the way and in 2004 Tim married the love of his life in Las Vegas.  Their son Timmy was born in 2007.

Their community involvement is very diverse. Becky serves on the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation Board, and is currently serving as board secretary.  She has helped raise and administer funds to promote our community hospital through various fundraisers like Peter Cottontail & Friends as well as their annual golf tournament and dinner.  Becky’s other community involvement includes being a board member for Families Advocating Autism Now (“FAAN”), a Morris Language Immersion School Site Council Member, a Morris Language Immersion School PTO member as well as a Special Olympics fundraiser volunteer.

Tim was appointed to serve on the McKinleyville Citizens’ Advisory Committee for the McKinleyville General Plan Update from 1994 to 1999.  He was elected to the Board of Directors for the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce in 1996 and served several terms as a director, as well as other positions including Secretary, Treasurer, chair of parade, and helping out with many events.  He also served on the Hiller Sports Site Construction Committee for the McKinleyville Community Services District; was appointed McKinleyville Municipal Advisory Committee by the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors in 2011, and was elected to the McKinleyville Union School District Board of Trustees in 2009 and recently re-elected this past November.

Welcome New Board Members

The chamber would like to welcome two new additions to our great team.  Amy Martin comes to us from HSU College and Career Center.  She has been an Ambassador for the chamber and helped us with the golf tournament, the holiday festivities and the planning of our annual dinner.

Stephanie Visser comes to us from HealthSPORT McKinleyville.  Stephanie is very active in the community and is always volunteering to help someone or do something.

Both Amy and Stephanie are excited to help serve their community.  We are lucky to have them!
