2013 Azalea Award Recipients

  The Azalea Award has been a long standing tradition at the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce. This award is given to those who have a history of serving our community and still continue to do so and must currently reside in McKinleyville.  The Azalea Award Winners also serve as Grand Marshals in our Pony Express Day parade.  The 2013 recipients of this honored award are Garth and Linda Sundberg.  They will be honored at the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce's Annual Dinner on March 22nd at Blue Lake Casino.  The dinner is a Murder in Monte Carlo theme and tickets are on sale now.  If you would like to attend please call 839-2449.

Garth and Linda Sundberg were both born and raised in Humboldt  County.  They graduated from McKinleyville High School.  Garth went on to College of the Redwoods.  Linda began a life long career working in her Grandfathers insurance agency as a sophomore in high school.
Married in 1973, they will celebrate their 40th  wedding anniversary in September this year.
Linda has always had a strong and enthusiastic commitment to service and community activity support.  Linda carries a nickname of “Activity Director” by her family.  Serving as a member of the Northern  Humboldt Union High School District board for two terms, as a member of the McKinleyville Senior Advisory Board, Greenwood Cemetery Association, numerous committees for the Arcata Fire Department, and Community Business Advisory Board of Umpqua Bank.
Linda has been a Farmers Insurance Group Agent for the past 32 years, she is proud to be associated with a national company, of which one of the three company founders were from Humboldt County.
Garth spent the first 35 years of his working career for Miller Farms Nursery.  A family owned and operated business.  During his tenure there, he operated as construction manager, serveral parks and subdivisions were developed in McKinleyville. Garth can probably identify underground infrastructure of McKinleyville without calling USA DIG. Presently Garth and his Son, Randy operate GR Sundberg, Inc. a general engineering construction company.   Garth is a member of Trinidad Rancheria.  He became involved in Tribal Government in the early 90’s.  Garth is presently Chairman of Trinidad Rancheria, and has served in that capacity since 2005.  He also is Chairman of the Northern California Tribal Chairman’s Association, a collaborative of Native American  Leaders who have a voice with State and Federal Governmental agencies.   Garth also sits on the Northern California Tribal Court Coalition,  Cal Trans Native American Advisory Council, National Congress of American Indians and the Humboldt County Indian Gaming Committee.
Garth and Linda raised their family in McKinleyville.  They are proud to called Grammie and Papa by their five grandchildren.
The Sundberg’s are honored to say: We are from McKinleyville and No One Could Be Prouder.

2013 Annual Dinner

Friday March 22nd at Blue Lake Casino in the Sapphire Palace

Edward Jones Ribbon Cutting


The McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce provided a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on January 17, 2013 during the Grand Opening of Edward Jones in McKinleyville. It is the office of Sara M Goodwin, Financial Advisor and her Branch Office Administrator Cassaundra Burrell. They are located at 1973 Central Ave in McKinleyville. Country Chic Boutique Ribbon Cutting

The McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony during the Grand Opening Celebration at Country Chic Boutique on Friday November 16th, located at 1549 City Center Rd in the McKinleyville Shopping Center. Country Chic Boutique offers a wide variety of clothing and accessories from formal wear, wedding dresses, consignment clothing, new clothing, designer jeans, wallets, purses and more! McKinleyville Chevron Ribbon Cutting

The McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the new McKinleyville Chevron & Redwood Market Thursday September27th. The gas station features propane, gasoline and diesel fuel. The market features Sutter's Mudd, with Cheryl and Kendra still running the business, a full Aztec Grill menu, and in addition offer grass fed beef hamburgers with homemade buns made fresh daily on the premises at Burger Central. They also offer beer on tap for those who wish to dine in their restaurant, plus a full range of convenience store items. They are located at 1693 Central Ave in McKinleyville.
