Featured Project ― Mad River Bluff Erosion Evaluation
The McKinleyville Community Services District and Humboldt County Department of Public Works retained LACO to evaluate erosion potential along the Mad River Bluffs. LACO’s analysis indicated that even a moderate flood would threaten more erosion and that bluff failure was probable given the geomorphic context of the site. These findings warranted an emergency response to the slope failure, allowing for expediting funding and streamlined permitting to secure an emergency coastal development permit to stabilize the bluff and protect existing structures and infrastructure from further land recession.
