for Humboldt County.
Unlike for-profit, investor-owned utilities (IOUs), RCEA is local, not-for-profit, with no shareholders and they are entirely community-focused. Founded in 2003 by a collaboration of local governments, RCEA was created by Humboldt County, for Humboldt County. Since 2017, RCEA has provided cleaner and more affordable energy to over 90% of homes and businesses in the region, with decisions made right here at home, not in a distant boardroom.
In 2024 alone, RCEA helped our community access more than $185,000 in rebates and services and brought in $4.4 million in grants and incentives for local energy projects. Their team connects people with practical, money-saving programs like no-cost energy assessments, electric vehicle and e-bike incentives along with rebates for energy-efficient appliances. They’re always working on new solutions to support our local resilience and sustainability.

Working from their office in downtown Eureka, RCEA’s team of 40 of your friends and neighbors is dedicated to meeting your energy needs through programs, incentives, advocacy, and education while remaining focused on the future through clean power procurement and energy resilience in the face of a changing climate.
